This year, I think I might make a few posts highlighting a few of my characters who are members of the LGBTQ+ community!
♡ Who/what is "Stacina"? ♡
"Stacina" is my own shipping pair between two of my original characters, Stacy Willow and Trina Williams. They are based on two actual Barbie dolls that I had back in the day (that looked like the image above). I'm not sure if those were their actual names, but I don't know. I had a hunch Trina's name was accurate to what it was back in the day, but as for Stacy, I really don't remember the actual name she had. But she had a sister named "Becky" (another doll I had), so I went down the route of "Karen/Chad" names and settled with "Stacy".
Little Maddy, unfortunately, neglected these two dolls a lot (Trina ended up getting thrown into a neighbor's bush and was never recovered 💀), preferring to make up stories/role plays with my other blonde Barbie dolls over these two. Hence why more than a decade later, I have decided to make these two the most fleshed out/interesting characters in my lineup based on old toys I used to own.
In their current reincarnations, they are both fifteen-year-old high school students. Stacy is the fourth eldest of her sisters while Trina is an only child. The Willow sisters used to be really good friends with Trina in elementary school, but starting in middle school, Trina moved away and went to a separate school. In the years leading up to when Stacy becomes a high school freshman, her sisters grew more and more concerned with popularity and setting trends. All that was ever on their minds were shopping for clothes, makeup, and their social media following. Stacy did enjoy the occasional shopping trip, making herself look good, and browsing social media, but not to the extent of obsession like her sisters had developed. She wanted to set herself apart from her sisters and not give the impression she had a similar "cookie-cutter queen bee" personality. She permanently dyed her hair brunette and often adds in temporary streaks in bold colors. She never full-on "hated" her sisters, per se (the last thing she wants is to have everyone think of her as "not like the other girls"), but she always felt they could be "so much more" if they didn't care so much about superficial things like good looks and popularity.
Trina, meanwhile, decided to enroll in a ballet school as she loved expressing herself through dance. Throughout middle school, she strived to do her best, not necessarily wanting to become the best of her class but to learn as much as she can so she'd be able to perform her own "spin" on dances outside of class (she hopes to one day start an online channel where she can record and share her dancing with the world).
By some stroke of luck, Stacy (and her sisters) and Trina ended up in the same high school. The two still remembered each other and were excited to rekindle their friendship. Unfortunately, Stacy's sisters didn't seem to remember Trina, much less be interested in becoming friends with her. They didn't "bully" her, per se, so Stacy figured she could persuade them to let Trina tag along with them when they went to hang out at the mall one weekend. Well, they went, but unfortunately, Stacy's efforts to get Trina involved in their conversations backfired. All Stacy's sisters ever seemed to want to talk about were the newest, trendiest clothes that were being sold and whatever cute boys walked by them. They paid little attention to Trina and only rarely said a word to Stacy; the former had enough and decided to cut all contact with her former friends.
Stacy, however, was determined to maintain her friendship with Trina. It took some persuasion, but eventually, Trina was convinced that Stacy really did mean well. The two would set up their own hangouts, just the two of them. Through their conversations, they were even able to get to know each other on a more personal/emotional level. They learned - among other things - they had a common interest in the arts, especially music. Sometimes, they'd even make efforts to attend various events they participated in (Stacy's school band performances and art club-related events; Trina's ballet performances).
Time passed, and the two grew quite close to each other - more than they had initially imagined. One couldn't deny she had feelings for the other, but neither knew exactly how to confess to one another without making it awkward. That was until the school prom was announced. Knowing that neither of them really had anyone to take (and that a handful of students would usually just bring their own friends to hang out and eat food there), Stacy asked Trina if they could go together just as "friends" (since Stacy was essentially "pressured" to go anyway because her sisters had dates). Long story short, they were indeed able to reveal their true feelings for each other when they were away from most of the other kids, and even shared their first dance together! From then on, they vowed to continue supporting each other and keeping in close contact, and someday in the future, they even hope to publicly and proudly come out to their friends and family.
I have decided that Stacy is bisexual as she does like several celebrities of both genders as well as several classmates. However, it could be implied she is somewhat demisexual as her feelings for Trina are based on their emotional connection as longtime friends.Trina, on the other hand, is likely a lesbian as she has mostly had feelings for other girls in her ballet class (ballet is seen by a lot of people as a mostly feminine sport, to begin with).
